Hi, I’m Katy.
I’m a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and I’m fully accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). I’m also trained in EMDR therapy, which is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as an effective treatment for Post‑Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
I’ve spent my career helping children, young people, and adults with a wide range of difficulties. I’ve worked in lots of different settings — including charities, local councils, and the NHS — which has given me the chance to support people from all backgrounds.
My Journey
My interest in helping others began when I studied Psychology at the University of Birmingham in 2009. From there, I started working as an outreach worker with children who had been through very difficult experiences. That role taught me how to build trust, support people gently, and create a safe space for those who may have found it hard to ask for help before.
In 2016, I went on to train as a CBT therapist at the University of Hertfordshire, and later completed my EMDR training with the EMDR Academy. Since then, I’ve provided both CBT and EMDR to young people and adults across charitable organisations, the NHS (CAMHS), and private practice.
Although much of my work has focused on trauma, I also regularly support people with challenges like:
- Anxiety
- Low mood and depression
- Phobias, social anxiety and panic
- Low self-esteem
- OCD
- …and many other common mental health difficulties
In recent years, I have also been the CBT Modality Lead for the Children and Young People’s Psychological Therapies programme (PgDip) at the Anna Freud Centre, in partnership with University College London. This role allows me to support and train the next generation of therapists.
A Little About Me
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and going for walks with my dog. I enjoy yoga, listening to comedy podcasts, baking, and dancing around the kitchen with my kids!
About Calmer Insights
I created Calmer Insights because I want therapy to feel accessible and comfortable for everyone. I know it can be difficult for many people to travel to appointments, so I offer online therapy sessions via webcam. This means you can get support from the privacy and ease of your own home.
For some people, talking online can feel a bit strange at first — and that’s completely OK. If webcam sessions don’t feel right for you, I’m always happy to explore whether in‑person sessions might be a better fit.
